Thats right! So are you ready to play some game? you must continue reading or I may think on sending a poisoned apple through your e.mail. Hm, no, Im not that mean! but today's topic is about FEAR and those scary and dark scenes that made you shrink your stomach. Well, I've noticed there's a common pattern in Disney's villains , Oh I forgot! this scenes are my favorite ones, there's no good movie without dark scenes. And they're dark and lovely for someone like me, but at three I couldn't open my eyes at Ursula's or even Frollo's anger. Dark scenes in animation come always ALWAYS, ....dark. It might sound dumb, but they are indeed, shadow games are the most recurrent technique. There is also a very used element, FIRE, haven't you noticed? almost every villain comes with fire, red..blue, it adds mystery and danger to the character.
But let's take a look on the video, Here we have a SCAR from the Lion King , it starts with green fire and smoke, dark scenes and some sort of 'apocalyptical-african music' his voice still very low and he screams sometimes. The backround is built with volcanos and rock, extremely crude. Hyenas are scare of the dark Lion.
Next scene we've got Alice in Wonderland's Red Queen, the only important thing in these scene is the Frog's expression of fear to the queen, wich represents her evilness at the end when she finds out that one frog stealed his pie, so she makes him cut his head.
Now there's The Little Mermaid's Villain ...Ursula. She's and octopus witch, ugly appearance, backround in dark purple, the music fills the air with her heavy voice. Thi time, she tries to make Ariel sign a contract to ''help her'' . Another common technique to keep with the plot of a story, contracts. Ursula's laugh make the scene much more terrible and scary.
Now, there's another kind of villain, this is my favorite face of disney villains, funny/dark characters like HADES in Hercules . He's the kind of bipolar villain who might make you laugh but is surrounded by darkness and evil power. Still funny though.
The Hunchback of Notredame has the best villain ever made in disney, Frollo is not a fictional character, is no more than human, a priest obsessed with being right, is quickly seduced by the idea of destroy his bad thinkings, wich makes him, an even worst sinner. He wasn't born evil, he's not searching for revenge, he's just making human mistakes. I like him.
There comes jafar, I don't like him much, but let's just take a look at the scene. Red and fire, jafar is dressed on black and red, he's beard is a little disturbing. He wants to own princess Jasmin and get to marry her and destroy aladdin. There is fear on everyone's faces, he owns a snake monster (thats another disney technique, monsters!).
